This Life by Jennifer Rodewald

Beyond Belief

This Life by Jennifer Rodewald is a marvellous contemporary novel. It is the fourth book in the Murphy Brothers series but can be read as a stand-alone.

There are seven Murphy brothers. In this book the focus is on Jacob and his wife Kate. The novel is about learning to draw closer to God and discovering what it really means to be rich beyond measure.

Wealth is never about worldly riches. Worldly riches are “trappings of wealth and luxury.” They ensnare us as we chase the next thing we must have. Worldly riches distract us from being truly rich and knowing God. When our stuff overwhelms us, we often relegate God to the bottom of the pile. We think that we do not need Him as we attempt to stand in our own strength. The truth is that if our foundation is not built on God’s world, it will crumble and we will fall. We need to declutter our lives and remove what separates us from God. We should push into God first thing in the morning. We should thank Him last thing at night. And we should press into Him every minute of every day. There is never a time when we do not need God.

Everything Behind Us by Jennifer Rodewald

King Over The Flood

Everything Behind Us by Jennifer Rodewald is a powerful Christian contemporary novel that will fill your heart and soul with love. It is part of the Murphy Brothers series but can be read as a stand-alone.

At the heart of the novel is a family and their journey through cancer. It is heart wrenching. There are difficult choices to be made. Both the characters and the reader realise the end result is uncertain but God is always faithful and will walk us through the valleys of life.

The past still hangs heavy. There are regrets and “dark nights of self-loathing.” God does not want us to live under self-imposed burdens. He wants us to live free. “She’d discovered in that pit of despair the true amazement of grace.” God’s grace is a free gift for all. He meets us right where we are and He lifts us up. “God’s forgiveness had met his remorse.”

When I’m With You by Jennifer Rodewald

Believe In Me

When I’m With You by Jennifer Rodewald is a charming contemporary Christian novel. It is the third book in the Big Prairie Romance series but can be read as a stand-alone.

We all have a past. We need to face our pasts before we can move forward into our futures. Sometimes our actions are misunderstood by others because they do not know the roads we have travelled.

Locking up our hearts to prevent hurt does not work. We will become bitter if we refuse to forgive those who have hurt us. The sins of others must not be projected onto the new people that we meet.

Everyone deals with grief differently. We need to realise that and not project onto others what we think they mean. We need to have honest conversations for fear of misunderstandings.

In Spite Of Ourselves by Jennifer Rodewald

Messes Into Masterpieces

In Spite Of Ourselves by Jennifer Rodewald is a most delightful Christian contemporary novel about the power of love. It is part of the Potter’s house series and book two in the Murphy Brothers series but can be read as a stand-alone.

The central theme is about love – learning to love like God, learning to give and receive love. A life starved of love is just a half-life. Not everyone who loves has a motive behind their love. The novel shows how we are loved unconditionally for just who we are.

Sometimes we need to break out from the lessons of our upbringing. Our childhood shapes the adult we become but sometimes we have learnt the wrong lessons. A character has been taught to be independent, that love is not needed, to be strong is to live emotionally isolated. This is flawed thinking. We need others. We need love and we need God.
