Local Girl Missing by Claire Douglas

Another Promise, Another Secret

localLocal Girl Missing by Claire Douglas is a psychological thriller that will have the reader asking questions from the start. With a racing heart you will not be able to put it down.

There are many themes within the novel including the duel ones of truth and lies. Once the lies begin, they carry on coming until life spirals out of control. Then it is hard to see where the lies end and the truth begins. Unearthing the truth can uncover uncomfortable secrets that were thought to be dead and buried.

There is the theme of friendship. A friendship that formed in childhood and lasted into adulthood. If severed one feels lost and bereft. “You’ll always be fixed in time as young and fresh faced.” Friendships are rarely equally yoked. Claire Douglas shows there is often a dominant partner. However at times the ‘weaker’ one may produce an extraordinary strength of character.

Widow by Denise Weimer

Broken Pottery

WidowWidow by Denise Weimer is the second book in the Restoration series but can be read as a stand-alone as any information needed from the first novel is incorporated into the second one. It is both a contemporary and a historical Christian novel. Much of the action is present day but some is mid nineteenth century.

Widow is an amazing read. The detail about garments and furnishings is comprehensive and a delight for the reader. Denise Weimer has clearly researched thoroughly.

It was an absolute pleasure to catch up with all the characters from book one, including Yoda the kitten. As Denise Weimer writes with care about even the smallest kitten, the reader is reminded that God cares about every detail of our lives. Nothing is too big or too small for Him.

Fetching Sweetness by Dana Mentink

Duct Tape And Memories

SweetnessFetching Sweetness by Dana Mentink is a totally delightful Christian romance and I absolutely loved it. I love Dana Mentink’s writings that focus around adorable dogs and have God at the centre. Dana Mentink’s novels will make you laugh and they will make you think, and if you let them, her writings will help you abandon yourself to God’s plans.

A major theme in the novel is plans and dreams. Rhett has a dream. Stephanie has a dream. God has a plan, an individual plan for both their lives. Are they able to see His plans? And are they willing to be led by Him? Or are they both too focused on their own plans? God’s plan for our lives is always so much greater than our own. How often do we “make God fit into my plans instead of the other way round?”

Alabama Irish by James Russell Lingerfelt

Unique And Breathtakingly Beautiful

AlabamaAlabama Irish by James Russell Lingerfelt is a sweet coming of age story where the ordinary is beautiful. It is a fabulous novel that really spoke to my heart.

In Alabama Irish Brian’s soul is laid bare. He is brutally honest about love and life and hopes and dreams. In its simplicity there is great beauty and I loved it.

There are many themes in Alabama Irish including that of grief and loss. “We don’t mourn the past. We mourn unlived tomorrows.” Death affects us all in different ways. However when we blame ourselves, we keep reliving the past and are unable to move forwards. This manifests itself as PTSD which left untreated means the person will suffer for years. The reader sees this played out in the novel. We cannot alter the past but we need to learn from it and move on. “We’re thankful for the lessons those experiences taught us.”
