Well Constructed
It Never Rains by Tony Bassett is an engrossing contemporary crime thriller that I just could not put down. It is part of the Detectives Roy & Roscoe series which I love.
The setting is in the Midlands, around Warwick and Stratford. As a Black Country girl, I was familiar with some of the places and was thrilled to see that Bewdley, where I live, was mentioned – it doesn’t normally crop up in novels. I am very familiar with the location of Worcester and knew exactly where the author was talking about.
Tony Bassett has constructed a marvellous plotline. It was well thought out and executed. I was totally gripped from the start.
As the book starts, the reader is on the ‘side’ of the pipe and slippers brigade.
All the characters were well drawn and realistic. Some had kind hearts. We see that even some of the villains are not all black-hearted. There is a conscience that is pricked to do the right thing. The detectives have a good relationship, with an easy chat between the pair.
It Never Rains was an exciting read. Within its pages there is something for everyone. It was amusing at times. I always know I will enjoy a good read from Tony Bassett.
I received a free copy via Rachel’s Random Resources for a blog tour. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

It Never Rains
It never rains but it pours . . .
When a ruthless gang burgles the home of a Premier League football player, DCI Gavin Roscoe and DS Sunita Roy suddenly have a murder and a kidnap on their hands.
The footballer’s stepson, Marcel, is taken from the palatial property whilst it is being ransacked, and his bodyguard is shot, stone cold dead.
To help them with their task, DI Parkes from the National Crime Agency’s Kidnap Unit joins the investigation but he has very different ideas about how the operation should be run.
While rain lashes the surrounding countryside, tempers rise, as do the flood waters.
Can the police track down this dangerous gang, unmask its malevolent ringleader, and reunite the boy with his family before it’s too late?
IT NEVER RAINS is the sixth book in the detectives Roy and Roscoe crime fiction series by Tony Bassett.
