Save Me Twice by E.A. Dustin

Powerful Yet Horrifying

Save Me Twice by E.A. Dustin is a heart wrenching historical novel set in Germany between October 1944 – October 1945. The novel is grounded in fact as it is based on the author’s father’s wartime experiences. It is a marvellous, comprehensive and horrifying read.

The author has captured the horrors of war. The novel is written from the point of view of sixteen year old Karl (the author’s father) who was conscripted into the SS as the Nazis grew ever more desperate.

Not all Germans were Nazis. As the war drew to a close, old men and young boys were forced from their homes to join the SS. It was a painful and horrifying process.

Delia And The Drifter by Melody Carlson

Inheritance

Delia And The Drifter by Melody Carlson is a marvellous Christian historical novel and the first in the Westward To Home series.

The novel concerns family, inheritance and wealth. Family is more than just blood ties, family is those who love and care for us. Sometimes family casts us off, this is in direct contrast to our heavenly Father who has promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

Inheritance is more than just money. Inheritance is family traits passed down to us such as kindness and character. The richest person is not the one with the biggest bank balance but the one with the kindest heart.

We need to have correct priorities. “There’s more to life than gaining wealth.” Pursuing wealth to the exclusion of all else will often lead to a downfall in a character.

Scarred: Haley’s Journey Home by Kimberly Morrison

Redemption

Scarred: Haley’s Journey Home by Kimberly Morrison is a Christian tale of redemption and our faithful God. It has its roots in the Biblical stories of Job and also the Prodigal Son.

We see how the life choices we make can send us soaring or falling. Once we have reached rock bottom, it is hard to claw ourselves out if the pit in our own strength. People offer us a hand up but we do not always take it.

God offers us the free gift of forgiveness and grace. Often we do not believe that we deserve forgiveness but that is a lie from the enemy. God offers us all His free gift. The question is – will we receive it?

The sins of the fathers may be repeated down the generations but they don’t have to be. We can choose to break the chain.

Phantom Ship In The Desert by Sherri Kukla

Exciting And Entertaining

Phantom Ship In The Desert by Sherri Kukla is a Christian contemporary children’s adventure novel and the third book in the Moto Mysteries series. It can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed catching up with familiar faces.

A mystery handed down the years is the focus as Jeremiah and Millie set out to solve it. Millie is particularly tenacious. She is head strong, always pressing forwards sometimes at the detriment to personal safety. She is also aware of her faults, asking God to help her where she is weak.

The search in the story reminds the reader that God searches for us relentlessly and with a passion until He finds us.

We are called to take care of the orphans or those who find themselves parentless through no fault of their own. Arms, hearts and a home are opened as a generational dream is fulfilled. Once more, we remember that we will always find a home in Our Father’s arms.
