Where Does The Truth Lie?
Her Perfect Lies by Lana Newton is a marvellous contemporary psychological thriller that draws the reader into a dark world of truth and lies, reality and illusions. Everyone appears plausible but some manipulate the truth for their own ends.
The lead character has suppressed memories. She searches to rebuild her past, to separate the dreams from the nightmares. Everywhere she turns, people tell her contradicting tales of her past. “Everyone’s truth was different.” Who can be trusted? Whose face is it that looms in her nightmares?
Finding a diary and old photos from childhood may bring answers or just more questions as the search for the truth continues.
Monsters lurk in a mind. Demons torment. Whose is the voice whispering in the ear? Are monsters born? Or does society shape them? Are we destined to repeat the sins of our fathers? These are all questions that arose as I read with heart racing.
There is love too. A love that consumes and a love that twists reality. There is a love that is lost. And a love that does the right thing.
Her Perfect Lies was a nail biting read. It threw up many questions along the way. I continually wondered where the truth lay and who could be trusted. It was all very cleverly done as I was lured in from the start and followed all the red herrings until the final reveal. An absolutely excellent read.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
