She Was The Quiet One by Michele Campbell

Utterly Brilliant

She Was The Quiet One by Michele Campbell is the most marvellous nail biting contemporary psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat.

The novel opens in the present and then reverts to the past before moving forwards, whilst being peppered with police interviews. The reader ‘knows’ what has happened but not to whom or why. As the action continues, the reader tries to piece together the clues. I came up with a theory – wrong again! See if you can guess the motive for the action.

The characters are well drawn and realistic. Some elicit feelings of ‘what a slime ball’, others I really liked. As the action hotted up, so my heart raced as I feared the outcome. A very intricately and well thought out plot line, brilliantly executed.

The level of psychological fear rises in the reader because we can see that the action could happen. We could far too easily be reading about a case of abuse in the papers.

There are several themes including that of loss, family, loyalty and trust. Those in positions of trust abuse their power. And those who should protect have serious defects.

She Was The Quiet One is totally gripping psychological fear at its best. I was completely caught up in the action. It was utterly brilliant. I cannot wait for more from Michele Campbell.

I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
