Living, Loving And Losing
Seasons Of A Life by DH Barbara is a contemporary Christian novel about living, loving and losing. It is about a family torn apart who have to learn to pick up the pieces again and enter a new season in life.
The literal seasons mirror the action and life of widowed Sammie. Years of living with an abusive husband do not dull the pain of losing him. As the novel opens, we meet Sammie in the cemetery.
Loss is a major theme. There is grief for past events. There is grief for events to come that will be faced alone.
God is the God of new beginnings and of restoration. He has plans for all of us. His plans are good and we can trust Him.
There is the theme of new life. The old is gone, the new is here. The past is gone, ahead lies the future and we need to embrace it.
The novel is about family and friends. Sometimes our family is less than perfect but we are united by blood and love.
Friends support us through the good and the bad. We all need good friends.
The novel shows how only one thing matters – people. Wealth and power should never be our focus, people should be.
Seasons Of A Life is a very pleasant, gentle read that I really enjoyed. A calmness penetrated my soul.
I received this book for free. A favourable review was not required and all views expressed are my own.
